Curly hair tends be dryer, more brittle and prone to frizzing, so it requires more care than straight hair. Most of us with curly hair, prefer the straight look, simply because we find it difficult to manage those locks. This is because natural curly hair is generally coarse, hard, wiry and frizzy. It becomes even difficult growing out curly hair since in the initial stages it looks bushy. This may all seem negative when talking about curly strands, but it is true. Curly hair is difficult to manage.
The first step to great curly hair: a layered cut. When hair is all one length, the weight pulls and flattens curls, especially on top—which can give your head an unattractive pyramid look. But layers give curly hair body and movement while keeping it under control. Be sure to keep layers relatively long. Layers that are too short can make curls stick up and out. If voluminous curls overwhelm your face, your stylist can open up your features by pulling a few subtle highlights through parts of curls that hit your cheeks and temples. Prefer to go bolder? Take ringlets around the eyes, cheeks, and chin or at the crown and highlight the entire curl. To ensure your locks look great all day long, resist the urge to touch curls—and don’t even think about brushing them (both can turn hair into a wiry mess). Freshen a droopy ’do by misting hair with water or spray-on conditioner, then twist each curl gently into place. Curly hair is often very dry, so use shampoos and conditioners specially formulated to help prevent moisture loss and breakage.
In order to save you from bad hair days, a lot of cosmetic and hair product companies have a range of curly hair care products. These products are specially manufactured to ease out all those curly problems. There are anti frizz shampoos and conditioners, hair oils, hair serums, mousse and gels, etc. In fact there are special brushes and combs that are designed according to the kind of curls one has. So whether you have crisp and tight curls or wavy open curls, there is a wide range of products available out there.
